Big Sean has provided his fans with an update on what they can expect from his upcoming sixth studio album.

The 36-year-old rapper unofficially announced the project last month by way of a comment he left on an Instagram post of him rapping shared by Rap Radar's Elliot Wilson.

"Nah its time for a new album this year fasho," Sean commented on the post.

During his NPR Tiny Desk Concert in March, Sean then confirmed that his new album would be "coming soon."

Speaking with Essence in a new interview published on Tuesday, Sean said the album, which as of now remains untitled, is about “just me having fun and expressing myself.”

“The only thing I’m going for is just authenticity,” he explained. “I don’t like putting too much pressure on an album anymore. I just want to get my art off, do my thing.”

In the lead up to the release of his sixth album, Sean has been embracing his love for the late J Dilla.

In January, Sean appeared on Bryson Tiller's "Get Dis Money," which uses the Dilla-produced beat from Slum Village's 1999 track of the same name.

In March, the Detroit emcee then posted a video to Instagram of him freestyling over a slowed version of The Pharcyde's "Drop," which was again produced by Dilla.

Sean also wore a J Dilla cap during his Tiny Desk Concert.

Asked by Essence if his new album will feature him rapping over any Dilla beats, Sean said that he isn't sure.

“As of now, there is me rapping on J Dilla beats that I have recorded — but I don’t know if it’s on the album or not," he said.
