Danny Brown has recalled how he was supposed to hang out with Mac Miller on the day he died.
Miller died from an accidental drug overdose at his home on September 7, 2018. He was 26.
Speaking with HipHopDX, Brown said Mac had invited him over to his house in Detroit just prior to his death, but he was skeptical to go.
“At that time, I was trying to fix myself up, and I was thinking to myself, ‘Man, I know Mac, every time I hang out with him, we kinda do get a little fucked up and shit.' And I wasn’t trying to be like that, so I didn’t wanna go," Brown explained.
Brown said that when he finally did decide to go and visit Mac, it was too late.
"The day I was supposed to leave to go hang out with him, on the radio, they announced [that he had died]," the "Really Doe" rapper remembered.
Brown said Mac's death hit him "kinda hard."
"It just let you know how easy or how quick some shit could just happen like that, y’know?" he said. "So yeah, obviously I didn’t get clean at that time, but that just really scared me and shit.”
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Brown opened up about his own struggles with substance abuse.
The 42-year-old said that at his lowest point he was binging on a concoction of drugs and alcohol seven days a week.
"I was just getting fucked up, every day, by myself," he said, adding: “I was in pain all the time. Throwing up and shit, you know? It was my rock bottom."
Fortunately, Brown is now eight months sober after checking himself into rehab earlier this year, according to HipHopDX.
