Lil Nas X has thanked his fans for showing love for his latest single "J Christ."

The song, Nas X's first in over a year, debuted at No. 69 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Tuesday.

"We made it to Billboard!" wrote the rapper and singer in an Instagram story. "I don't want y'all to think I take this for granted!"

"I appreciate you and adore you," he added. "New song next week!"

"J Christ," which was released on Friday, has come under plenty of criticizm for its religious themes.

On the song, Nas X compares his return to the music scene to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

"Back up out the gravesite / Bitch I'm back like J Christ," he raps.

In the song's music video, Nas X wears a crown of thorns as he's crucified in front of a group of onlookers.

On Monday, following backlash from the Christian community, Nas X took to social media to defend himself.

“It was literally me saying, ‘Oh, I’m back. I’m back like Jesus,'" he said in a video posted on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, and Instagram.

"That was the whole thing,” he added. “I’m not the first person to dress up as Jesus. I’m not the first rapper and I won’t be the last.”
