T-Pain was handed the Legend Award at the 2023 Soul Train Music Awards in California on Sunday night.

The 39-year-old star was presented the award by fellow rapper and personal friend David Banner, who he revealed had recently become his "life coach."

“When I finally got the courage to ask somebody for help with my life, I went straight to David Banner and the words he gave me in the three hours of us talking, set a whole different trajectory of where my life was headed,” said Pain.

The "I'm Sprung" star also thanked his "beautiful wife" Amber Najm, before issuing a challenge to the next generation.

“I don’t want you to chase this," he said. "I don’t want you to base your life on how many people in the crowd can tell you that you can have this. I want you to know that you already got this. You already have this in your mind."

"I want y’all to be who y’all are unapologetically, I want y’all to be who you’ve always wanted to be," he added. "I want y’all to not care about what anybody thinks about that person. If you like it, I love it and I want some mo’ of it.”

T-Pain, who has sold more than 16 million albums worldwide, later returned to the stage to perform a medley of his biggest hits, including "Can't Believe It," "Bartender," and "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')."

Elsewhere at the 2023 Soul Train Awards, SZA was the big winner on the night.

She scooped the awards for Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best R&B/Soul Female Artist.

She also won The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter's Award alongside Babyface, Blair Ferguson, Khris Riddick-Tynes, and Leon Thomas for her song "Snooze."

Usher had a night to remember too, scooping three awards.

The "U Remind Me" star won the Soul Train Certified Award and the awards for Best Collaboration and Best R&B/Soul Male Artist.

"ICU" singer Coco Jones won the prize for Best New Artist.
